Providence Health & Services Mental Health Specialist in Oregon City, Oregon


Providence is calling a Mental Health Specialist (0.6 FTE, Evenings) to Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.

The Mental Health Specialist will work 3, 8 hour shifts/wk (from 3pm - 11:30pm) and will be expected to rotate every other weekend.

Providence Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient (CAPU) unit is unique as it's one of only a handful of programs of its kind in the US! This unit provides acute stabilization treatment for children age 5 – apx 12 (6 beds) and teens through age 17 (14 beds). Our program is developmentally/age appropriate and flexible to individual needs, and incorporates a trauma-informed approach to care. We partner with families during individualized treatment, as well as planning for transition back to their community.

The CAPU is located at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. Since 1954, Willamette Falls has served the community as a not-for-profit hospital dedicated to exceptional care. We offer some of the most advanced technologies, systems and services, and remain committed to the tradition of community outreach and involvement. Our Joint Commission accredited acute care hospital provides the residents of Clackamas County with a wide range of health care services and programs. More than 300 physicians and health care professionals are licensed to practice in our facility. Our medical center is licensed for 143 beds and in addition to serving our CAPU patients and families we provide emergency, medical-surgical, intensive, surgical services and maternity care.

In this position, you will:

  • Work with other members of inpatient unit staff to provide patient care in a variety of job duties, and under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), or the Mental Health Professional Therapist, or the inpatient unit Manager or Director.

  • Provide hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieu management for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness.

  • Under the direction of an RN or other designated clinical staff, observe and report on patient conditions.

  • Be responsible for and/or support the daily and various therapeutic activities care of the patients.

  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary treatment team in the initial developing and modification of treatment care plans both during the admission process, and during the in-patient hospitalization.

  • Be responsible to act in accordance with our Mission and Core Values and work to consider our guiding principles of: "Know Me, Care for Me and Ease My Way" with each patient.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Social Science fields (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other related field)

  • 2 years in an acute or residential inpatient psychiatric facility in a similar role. Applicable internship or practicum experience may be applied towards required years of experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem solving skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in a child or adolescent psychiatric environment
