Providence Health & Services On-call Health Unit Coordinator - Child Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Oregon City, Oregon


Providence is calling an On-call Health Unit Coordinator (0.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.

Providence Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient (CAPU) unit provides treatment programs for children through age 12 (6 beds) and teens through age 17 (14 beds). Our programs are developmentally age appropriate and flexible to individual needs while incorporating collaborative problem-solving approaches. Family involvement is encouraged during treatment as well as with care planning and discharge planning.

We're presently searching for an Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to work on-call, as needed to relieve our current staff for vacations and fill in for illness. The HUC would work 10 hour shifts from 9:00 am and could be asked to fill in on weekends or weekdays as needed.

The HUC is a key person within the nursing unit who provides overall administrative and technical assistance and support in the operation of the CAPU. This position is the hub of all communication to and from the nursing unit; therefore, this role greatly impacts the "tone" of the unit/shift.

We're searching for an individual who has the following skills/attributes:

  • Is confident and competent using computer applications/telecommunication equipment such as phones, computers, etc.

  • Word processing - you're able to use MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) like a champ!

  • Problem solving - you like to brainstorm and can work to navigate challenging issues independently or with your peers.

  • Paying strong attention to detail - nothing gets by your eagle eyes when we're looking at written communication such as emails or documents!

  • Teamwork - you like to Function as a strong member of the team.

  • High stress situations - You're able to remain calm and respectful in trying times.

  • Excellent communication skills - you have no fear when it comes to passing messages to any members of the team, writing documents, and/or answering phones or emails

  • Agility - you're someone who's flexible in an ever-changing environment

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Medical terminology course or experience

  • 1 year of experience performing secretarial duties in healthcare or equivalent training in a recognized healthcare program

  • Proficient in word processing, experience with a variety of software applications

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of post high school education

  • Satisfactory completion of health unit coordinator course work or equivalent knowledge

  • Certification through the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators

  • Previous experience as a preceptor/role model
