Providence Registered Vascular Technologist in Oregon City, Oregon
Providence is calling a Registered Vascular Technologist - Non-Invasive Laboratory (0.6 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.
We are seeking for a Vascular Technologist Registered - Non-Invasive Laboratory that will have the knowledge of and expertise in performing non-invasive diagnostic procedures used in evaluating vascular occlusive disease, as well as the ability to objectively identify the presence or absence of disease utilizing a variety of ultrasound and Doppler equipment. The technologist has the ability to modify procedures with the approval of the Supervisor or Medical Director, to meet special circumstances to provide clinically useful information on a cost-effective basis. The technologist will comply with the standards set by the Inter-societal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and departmental policies and procedures. This position requires shared regional coverage for stand-by and call back on evenings and weekends..
In this position you will be responsible for the following responsibilities:
Perform and maintain competency in abdominal vasculature, transcranial Doppler, cerebrovascular, upper/lower extremity arterial studies, upper/lower extremity venous studies, bypass grafts/dialysis grafts and limited ultrasound studies; demonstrating technical proficiency in producing high quality diagnostic studies and the ability to recognize anatomical structures that are visualized
Record scans for permanent record
Assure an adequate clinical history is available which correlates with exam being performed
Clearly develops and presents exam and related patient information to reading physician for interpretation
Demonstrate competence in all areas of ultrasound positioning, pathology and physiology; operates all ultrasound equipment and can select and modify all technical factors as needed
Adjust equipment to achieve optimal resolution. Informing appropriate individuals of needed repairs with documentation
Routinely prepare exams for interpretation to include; correct identification and labeling of images, adequate clinical history, proper charging and consistently obtains previous exams for comparison
Identify patient by checking two patient identifiers - patient's full name, date of birth and/or medical record number
Review patients' charts and orders to ensure correct exam
Provide preliminary report of vascular exams per existing reporting policy and protocol
Provide for good patient rapport by maintaining positive and effective communication skills, alleviates patient anxiety and addresses patient concerns about side effects by explaining and instructing patients on the nature of non-invasive procedures
Provide respect for patient modesty by proper transportation of patients on and off tables and sees that patients are properly clothed and covered during the examination
Maintain awareness of patient status and takes appropriate actions to meet their needs
Communicate and use knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to ensure appropriate and effective care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
Strictly adhere to equipment disinfectant policy and procedure
Maintain appropriate certification and professional expertise through continuing education
Use professional judgment and presents a professional image of competency to customers and staff
Maintain professional appearance in accordance with written policies and procedures
Manage stressful situations in a manner that promotes positive outcomes
Routinely accept specialized lab assignments such as (but not limited to); staff scheduling, research projects, office management, quality assurance/quality improvement, and staff education
Submit research studies for clinical trials
Required qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
Current Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification by ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers), or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire date. Complete CME's to maintain RVT certification as needed by ARDMS.
Current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging licensure
Current Driver's license
Current American Heart Association (AHA) - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred qualification for this position include:
Graduate of a four year vascular technology program
Two (2) years of experience working in a Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory setting
