Providence Health & Services RN - Mental Health - Child & Adolescent Psych Unit in Oregon City, Oregon


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse - Mental Health Adolescent Child (0.8 FTE, Evenings) to Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.

We're seeking an experienced RN to join our multi-disciplinary team and work a patterned schedule that includes 4, 8 hour shifts/wk from 3pm - 11:30pm. This position also rotates every other weekend. Joining this team means you'll be working with a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of Nurses, Mental Health Specialists, Psychiatrists, and Social Workers to aid our patients in getting the resources and care they need to take the next step in their treatment. Nurse to patient ratios on this floor is 1:3 or 1:4. Kids on this unit are medically stable. Nurses that fit this unit well are those with excellent communication skills, patience, and flexibility. We enjoy working with colleagues who like to bring forward ideas and want to contribute, have positive attitudes, and are outgoing.

The Providence Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient (CAPU) unit is unique as it's one of only a handful of programs of its kind in the US! This unit provides acute stabilization treatment for children age 5 – apx 12 (6 beds) and teens through age 17 (14 beds). Our program is developmentally/age appropriate and flexible to individual needs, and incorporates a trauma-informed approach to care. We partner with families during individualized treatment, as well as planning for transition back to their community.

The CAPU is located at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. Since 1954, Willamette Falls has served the community as a not-for-profit hospital dedicated to exceptional care. Our Joint Commission accredited acute care hospital provides the residents of Clackamas County with a wide range of health care services and programs. More than 300 physicians and health care professionals are licensed to practice in our facility. Our medical center is licensed for 143 beds and in addition to serving our CAPU patients and families we provide emergency, medical-surgical, intensive, surgical services and maternity care.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment.

  • Be accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan.

  • Practice in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire

  • All Registered Nurses (RNs) without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher within 3 years of hire

  • A RN with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a Bachelor's degree in nursing

  • Unencumbered RN license in Oregon and wherever care is delivered

  • If RN holds a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire

  • 12 months of acute care experience working with the patient population similar to the Mental Health Adolescent Child -or- completion of the specialty residency located at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing

  • National Certification in Mental Health Adolescent Child
